The first certified courses in IT and accessibility in Norway

In connection with the new Discrimination and Accessibility Law, passed in the summer, there is now a pressing need for expertise in all aspects affected by the law. As a consequence of this MediaLT now offers Norway's first private, certified course in IT and accessibility.

Story by: Magne Lunde - 03.10.2008

The course is being run as part of the project Module in ICT and accessibility (MIKT).   The pilot project completed in 2007 established that there is clearly a need for this expertise. The main objective of the MIKT project is to develop a certified module in ICT and accessibility.

Practical understanding

The course is designed to give participants a practical understanding of what it means to be a disabled user of ICT. We believe that such an understanding is essential as a means of achieving universal design in this field. The course will be run as a three day seminar, which will give a practical introduction in how Disabled use ICT.

Broad appeal

We think this course will be useful for all who work in the context of ICT, with responsibility to ensure universal design. It is especially relevant for groups such as:

  • Government employees with responsibility for public procurement
  • Network administrators in public and private companies
  • Web designers and Web developers
  • Employees in user organisations
  • Politicians responsible for ICT and / or universal design
  • Members of the municipal council for the Disabled
  • Employees in public and private centres of expertise for the disabled
  • Employees in NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare Organisation); particularly the employees at the assistive aids centres
  • Research and development centres working in the field of ICT and the Disabled
  • Employees in higher education working in the field of ICT

Quality Control

The first version of the curriculum and test has been developed. Norsktest/Datakortet will now review and undertake quality control of the curriculum and test, and take responsibility for the certification system. Participants who pass the test will be given a course certificate. The Course Plan below gives a systematic review of the curriculum.
