Audio described film shown on Norwegian TV for the first time

MediaLT has been working very hard to promote audio description of films on Norwegian TV, and we are therefore delighted that the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation has agreed to send the audio described film "Tatt av kvinnen" on December 30th at 3.30 pm.

MediaLT undertook audio description of the Norwegian film "Tatt av kvinnen" in Autumn 2007, and two more Norwegian films: "SOS svartskjær" and "Lunsj" were subsequently audio described.

Good feedback

Audio description has been carried out as part of the Audio subtitling project and we have been working to get trial broadcasts with audio description. Two film nights were held to evaluate the audio description that has been carried out so far. The feedback from participants at the film evenings was very positive.

Good idea

Collaboration with the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation has produced positive results. We proposed that an audio described Norwegian film should be shown on TV and Svein Prestvik in NRK was very positive to this suggestion. Fortunately our idea will now be put into practice, and on the 30th December at 3.30 pm the audio described film "Tatt av Kvinnen" will be shown on NRK. For the first time everyone will have the opportunity to view an audio described film. We are very eager to learn how visually impaired viewers experience an audio described film. The feedback we have received so far indicates that many think it enriches the film rather than detracts from it.

MediaLT hopes that this is the first step on the way to audio described TV broadcasts in Norway, and we will continue our work towards making this a reality.
