MediaLT have been working with the DAISY format for Digital talking books for a number of years and have accumulated a wide range of experience of this format, both with respect to playing and producing DAISY material. The aim of this project was to develop methods and standards for the production of full text DAISY books and to set up guidelines for when these standards should be used, based on user experience.
The project started in 2005 for a period of two years and was funded by the Norwegian Research Council and IT funk.
Users were invited to answer an open questionnaire over the Internet addressing various questions in relation to how DAISY books are used. This investigation was not limited to full text books but provided useful information and formed the basis for a further survey of full text books sent out to schools. Various case studies of users with different asumtions and needs have also been accomplished.
