Creating Charts

Create a Chart

Select the data you want to present in the chart. Use the Insert ribbon which contains the controls for the various chart types:

  • Column - vertical bars grouped by category: Press Alt+N, C
    Line - points connected together by a line: Press Alt+N, N
  • Pie - circular chart divided in sectors: Press Alt+N, E
  • Bar - horizontal bars grouped by category: Press Alt+N, B
  • Area - compares quantities, based on line charts, area bewteen the axes and the line is coloured to represent a quantity: Press Alt+N, A
  • Scatter - series of points, similar to line chart, but x axis also has values rather than categories: Press Alt+N, D

When you have selected a chart type, for example column (Alt+N, C), a column gallery with different column types is shown, with for example 2-D, 3-D columns etc. Choose the desired chart using the arrow keys and press Space. The chart is inserted and selected. 

Move, or Delete the chart

Jaws: If focus isn't on the chart press Ctrl+Shift+O and select the chart.

To move the chart (it often covers the data area when first inserted on the same sheet as the data) choose Cut from the context menu and paste under the data area.

Jaws: to delete the chart you may need to pass through first (Ins+3) before pressing Delete.
