Using Word 2007

Views

You can change the View in Word using the View Category, or if you are using the mouse, there are buttons on the Status bar to do this. Print layout and Draft (previously called Normal) are the two most commonly used Views. Draft is recommended when using a screen reader.

ress Alt+W, E.

Navigation

The navigation keys are in general the same as in previous Word versions: Ctrl+Home, Ctrl+End, Find dialog box Ctrl+F, Go To Ctrl+G etc.

New Documents

Press Ctrl+N to open a new blank document.

To choose other templates:

1. Open the Office menu, choose New (Alt+F,N)

2. Tab 3 times to the list of categories, choose the desired category using the arrow keys and press Space to open this category.

3. Tab to the desired template in this category. Don't press Space when you reach the template, tab to the button for Create or Download (from Microsoft Online) and press Space.

Options

You can customise Word using the Options dialog box. As mentioned in a previous note this is accessed in Office 2007 using the Office menu. Press Alt+F,I to open Word Options. You are now in a list of several different categories of options: Popular, Display, Proofing, Save, Advanced etc. Choose the category using the arrow keys. The category shown to the right changes as you navigate in this list. When you are on the desired category you can then use Tab to navigate to the option you wish to change.

There are many options! I name just 2 examples here:

Enter User Name

1. Open Word Options. Choose the Popular category using the arrow keys.

2. Tab to the User name field. Enter the name and tab to OK.

Customize how Documents are saved

1. Open Word Options. Choose the Save category using the arrow keys.

2. Tab to Save files in this format. Press Down Arrow to open the list, choose the format using the arrow keys and press Enter. Tab to OK.
