Choose the Review category and Spelling & Grammar from the Proofing group. Or press Alt+R, S. You can also use F7 as in previous Word versions. If the program finds spelling mistakes the Spelling and Grammar dialog box is then displayed, and the first misspelled word found by the spelling checker is selected. As in previous versions you can correct each error that the program finds in different ways:
Open the Office menu and choose Word Options. Or press Alt+F, I.
Choose the Proofing category using the arrow keys.
In the proofing category you will find options for automatic Spelling and Grammar control. The first field is AutoCorrect Options, tab to AutoCorrect Options and press Space to open the AutoCorrect dialog box.
You are now in the Replace field. Here you can write abbreviations or common spelling mistakes which will automatically be written in full or corrected as you type, for example replace ck with Catherine Kalvenes. Every time ck is written in a document it will automatically be corrected to Catherine Kalvenes.
You can look up and replace words using the Thesaurus.
Select the word you want to look up.
The easiest technique is to use the application menu, chose synonyms and choose the synonym you want to replace the word with.
Or choose the Review category, and Thesaurus from the proofing tools group or press Alt+R, E. You can also press Shift+F7 as in previous versions. This opens the Research task pane.
Press F6 to move to the task pane. You are now in the Search box and the word is already entered. Tab to the first search result. You can then use the arrow keys to find the appropriate word. Press Alt+Down arrow to open the menu for the word and choose Insert and press Enter to make the replacement.
The focus is still in the task pane. Press Ctrl+Space and choose Close to close the task pane.
On the Review tab, click Thesaurus. Press ALT and click the word that you want to look up. Results appear in the Research task pane. To use one of the words in the list of results or to search for more words, do one of the following: To use one of the words, point to it, click the down arrow, and then click Insert or Copy. To look up additional related words, click a word in the list of results.
